Conservation and Earthcare Specialising in Nursery Production

The first thing to come back in the restoration process is vegetation. Once habitat is formed invertebrates return, then reptiles, followed by birds. Conservation and Earthcare Year 1 focuses on the first part of the restoration process: the regeneration of native flora (revegetation).

Conservation and Earthcare Nursery Production is an introductory course into nursery, horticulture and restoration work. Students explore the extraordinary biodiversity of the West Coast and learn about the structure and function of ecosystems. You will research how changes in land use afect environmental sustainability and complete feld based investigations into local restoration projects. You will get the opportunity to run and manage a native nursery, and be involved in the whole growing process, from seed collection right through to tree planting. Throughout the year-long project students will get opportunities to take part in and lead community restoration projects and work alongside industry experts. Students will also have the chance to participate in ‘Project Pollinate’ where you will learn introductory apiculture/beekeeping skills. This course has large practical components and contains some theory elements.
